Medicinal plants adorn new surgery

With ideas that have already won Hale Village Gold in London in Bloom and the Green Flag award this year, the landscaping team in Hale Village has innovated again.

Planting around the new GP surgery in the Village has been specially selected for its medicinal benefits in keeping with the wellbeing theme. The stunning selection of shrubs and plants, including St John’s Wort, Jerusalem Artichoke, Coneflower (Echinacea) and Lavender will provide year round colour and scents.

Michael Polledri, Chairman of Hale Village said, “We’re always looking for inspired ideas for our planting and using medicinal plants outside the surgery is a lovely idea.  It’s this level of attention to detail that keeps the Village looking so good and winning us such prestigious awards.”

Using medicinal plants for healing is as old as mankind itself, but we’ll be leaving any healing to the GPs. We hope residents and visitors to the surgery will appreciate the idea and enjoy the planting.

Here’s what’s on display

St John’s Wort (Hypericum x Moserianum ‘tricolor’)  – used topically to treat bruises, burns, insect bites and scabies. The plant has also been studied for the treatment of emotional disorders.

Jerusalem Artichoke (Helianthus Tuberosus) – dietary fibers in the artichoke’s root help eliminate toxic compounds from the gut and the root contains small amounts of anti-oxidant vitamins such as vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin E.

Coneflower (Echinacea Purpurea) – known for fighting infection, boosting the immune system, alleviating pain and as an anti-inflammatory.

Lavender (Lavendula Angustifolia ‘Munstead’) – known benefits of using lavender are to reduce stress, heal cuts, improve sleep, alleviates headaches and improve eczema.
